Vinhas Velhas is a red wine made from a field blend sourced from a hundred-year-old vineyard in Arcossó between Vidago and Chaves, at about 400 meters elevation. Alternating schist and granite, with deep, lean granitic soils in a mountainous climate, yields dense fruit, fresh acidity, and marked minerality.
The vineyard is planted to over 15 grape varieties, dominated by Tinta Amarela alongside Bastardo, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Cornifesto, Marufo, Borrado das Moscas, Códega and others. Red, white, and pink-skinned grapes are harvested and co-fermented together in the traditional way.
On the nose there are black and red berries with vegetal and spicy notes. The palate is layered and spicy, with deep fruit, lively acidity, and firm yet well-placed tannins.
