Explicit X Vinhas Velhas comes from old vineyards in Serra de São Mamede (Porto de Espada, Salão Frio, Alegrete) at around 600 meters elevation. A wine that honestly shows the vineyard’s attributes: altitude, austere soils, and an old field blend.
The vines are ≥55 years old and planted to indigenous Portuguese varieties. The soils are sandy and skeletal with granite outcrops, low in fertility and with low water-holding capacity, which yields concentration, structure, and clear minerality.
In the glass: dense fruit and spice with mountain-fresh acidity, structured yet polished tannins, and discreet, integrated oak. Long, dry finish.
